Earning Season

You may have switched on the business news channels on TV, have heard the commentators talking about the earnings season and wondered what this is. The earnings season is the time when a lot of publicly listed companies report their quarterly earnings. This generally begins one or two weeks after the last month of the quarter, so in January, April, July and October the corporates report their earnings. However, it is important to note that not all companies release their results in this period as their reporting dates may not fall in this period due to their quarters not falling in this period.

It is important to note that this a period of active movements on the markets and one should know which companies will be releasing results for the day as this may move the overall market. A beat of the analyst estimates especially for the big companies on the S&P 500 will see a rally on the market and a miss will see the market falling. (Fundamental Analysis)
